If you don't like running, walking is a good option. But I will suggest you to walk on fat bunring zone, meaning you should walk at such a speed so that number of your heart beats is in the range of fat burning zone. Check my fat burning zone chart or fat burning zone calculator. If you maintain the zone you will lose fat directly from your body while walking.
Another very basic thing is that you walk more you spend more calories also if you walk at higher speed, you spend calories more.
